National Trails Day® is an annual event hosted by the American Hiking Society that encourages support of our nation’s public trails. Whether it be hiking Browns Mound, floating down the Ocmulgee River, reflecting in Riverside Cemetery, walking at Amerson River Park, or biking at the Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park, trails are an important part of Macon’s community and have a positive impact on mental and physical health.

Bike Walk Macon and NewTown Macon have teamed up to encourage Maconites to support equitable access to Macon’s iconic greenspaces on this day. Here are four ways to support and celebrate National Trails Day in Macon-Bibb County:

  1. Join us at Amerson River Park for the Wild About Trails kids event.
Bring out your friends, family, and bicycles from 9 am to 12 noon. There will be bike decorations, a bike parade, popsicles, zoo animals from the Museum of Arts and Sciences, and more! This event is free and open to the public. More event info here: bit.ly/wildabouttrails
  2. Make a donation to expand and enhance Macon’s Ocmulgee Heritage Trail.
Proceeds will benefit NewTown Macon’s Ocmulgee Heritage Trail construction fund which furthers trail expansion. Donations will also support traffic calming projects led by Bike Walk Macon that will connect to the Ocmulgee Heritage Trail. Donate here: www.betterunite.com/trailsdaymacon2022
  3. Get out and get active on Macon’s trails.
Hop on a new (or familiar) trailway in Macon. There are several trail options to get out and get active by biking, running, walking, or skating. Pick one and enjoy!
  4. Connect and share on social media.
Whatever way you choose to celebrate our community’s greenspaces, connect with us on social media. Tag @bikewalkmacon or @newtownmacon with the hashtag #TrailsDayMACON
